ABOUT THE ROLE

The Behavioural Support Worker works under the close supervision of the Nursing and Rehabilitation teams providing individualized support to clients with responsive behaviours and respecting their physical, emotional, social, cultural, and spiritual needs and preferences. The Behavioural Support Worker is an active member of the Interprofessional Team assisting in the planning, implementation, and ongoing evaluation of individualized client-focused plans of care.

WHAT YOU BRING

Education/Experience:

  •  Developmental Services Worker diploma or equivalent combination of education from a recognized college program and experience with clients with responsive behaviours
  • Demonstrated experience and interest in working with individuals with acquired brain injury including those with responsive behaviours or personal expressions

 

Skills/Abilities:

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills as well as creativity critical thinking and problem-solving abilities relative to the situation and scope of practice
  • Demonstrated commitment to people-centered care
  • Ability to work as part of a team and also independently with minimal supervision
  • Experience and proficiency in computer software including Microsoft Office Meditech Intranet/Internet and other software applications
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Demonstrated regular attendance at work

 

Assets

  • Certification relevant to practice setting (i.e. Acquired Brain Injury) including training in Gentle Persuasive Approaches (GPA) and U-First is an asset
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) is an asset

 

Conditions of Employment:

  • This position shall be conditional upon a satisfactory Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC) where indicated, to ensure the absence of relevant criminal convictions.
  • Offers of employment made to external candidates are conditional upon providing proof of a complete primary series of Health Canada approved mRNA COVID-19 vaccine or proof of valid medical exemption, prior to the offered effective date. If proof of vaccination or valid medical exemption is not provided, the offer of employment is rescinded.
