JOB SUMMARY

The purpose of this classification is to assist the Plant Manager in the operation and maintenance of the Hicks and Smith WPP facilities to ensure the plants stay in compliance with applicable local, state, and federal laws, rules and regulations.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Assists with training and instructing co-workers regarding operational procedures and proper use of equipment.

Participates in asset management for assigned Plant. This includes retirement of assets, tracking assets, calculating asset life cycle and maintenance cost, and requesting asset replacements during budget meetings and planning.

Procures replacement and spare parts, oils, lubricants and chemicals for the facility and equipment: maintains inventories for treatment plant processes; and re-orders as needed.

Prepares equipment manuals and lubrication manuals, as well as creates standard operating procedures, for maintenance staff; performs minor maintenance of equipment.

Issues work orders as needed to keep plant operational at minimal expense and with minimum downtime.

Leads and assists with significant department related projects.

Interprets laboratory results and other plant data by observation and testing of samples to ensure compliance with state regulations.

Provides technical hands-on training and assists with safety training of plant operators to ensure competence of the operators and reduce safety hazards; assists with operator problems as needed.

Leads plant operations in the absence of the Plant Manager.  Serves as subject matter expert with plant operations for peers.

Assists the Plant Manager with preparation of the annual expense/operating budget based on current year expenses and future needs: and forecasts future resources and capital expenditures.

Assists with or leads guided tours and events to improve general public understanding of how the plant works.

Ensures the production of adequate quantity and quality of drinking water; meets required EPD reporting and disclosure requirements; ensures correct application of chemicals in the production of safe, potable water; supervises operation of the distribution system and supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems; coordinates with other plants regarding production rates and staff training; and supervises the handling of residual sludge while ensuring the removal from basins, dewatering, and disposal off-site.

This position may require on call assignments. 

Performs other duties as assigned.

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK

High school diploma or GED required; supplemented by four years of experience water plant operations.; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.

Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in performance of the essential functions and learn, comprehend, and apply all CCWA or departmental policies, practices, and procedures necessary to function effectively in the position.

 

Specific License or Certification Required: Must possess and maintain the following licenses/certifications:

  • Valid Georgia Driver’s License.
  • For Water Production - Georgia Class I Water Plant Operator License

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • This position classifies the physical exertion requirements as medium work involving lifting no more than 50 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 50 pounds or higher. If someone can do medium work, then he or she can also do sedentary and light work.
  • Tasks typically involve some combination of climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and prolonged standing; tasks may also involve some pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight. Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, sounds, taste, and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.
