Heavy Truck Mechanic / Diesel Technicians & 2nd/3rd Year Apprentices

Job Duties:

  • Determine vehicle condition by conducting inspections and performing diagnostic tests; identify worn and damaged parts
  • Complete preventative maintenance schedules, including: installing component/part upgrades; controlling corrosion etc.
  • Correct vehicle deficiencies by removing, repairing, adjusting, overhauling, assembling, disassembling, and replacing major assemblies, sub-assemblies, components, parts or systems - power/drive trains, electrical, air conditioning, fuel, emission, brake, steering, hydraulics
  • Make adjustments and alignments, including: bearing loads, gear tooth contact, valve mechanisms, governors, oil systems, control linkages, clutches, and traction units
  • Some metal fabrication and welding - steel/aluminum
  • Verify vehicle performance by conducting test drives; adjusting controls and systems
  • Comply with federal, state and provincial vehicle requirements by testing engine, safety, and combustion control standards
  • Keep shop equipment operating by following operational instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; performing preventative maintenance; calling for repairs
  • Keep work area clean and safe; clean up after job completion

 

Required Skills:

  • Licensed 301T Mechanic/Diesel Technician or Apprentice
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to work with other employees and drivers to diagnose and repair vehicles in a timely manner
  • Ensure personal certification is kept up-to-date
  • Team player with a positive attitude
